Traveling without unforeseen events brings you, in collaboration with ZA49, the 4 reasons why Carande is the perfect place to welcome autumn

1. Carande is the starting point of a new hiking route that takes us to the roots of Leonese mythology.

The recently inaugurated Leonese mythology route is a safe bet for this fall. Its low difficulty, the perfect signage that we find throughout the entire route, and its five kilometers make it a perfect option for the enjoyment of the whole family.

On this circular path skilfully designed to show us all the charms of an area, which already has us in love, you will be able to enter a hitherto unexplored universe: Leonese mythology.
Although Leonese mythology has a lot of oral dissemination of its myths and legends, and most of the characters are well known by the inhabitants of the area, until now we did not have a materialization as realistic as the one we found throughout along the path.
A set of four wooden figures, carved by the Spanish champion in chainsaw carving, José Llorente, dot the route, and together with their information panels they merge with the forest, and plunge us into a magical world, which excites everyone. They pass through the area.

The first of these figures is the Old Lady of the Mountain, one of the characters most loved by children, and who has her own cave a few kilometers away; Later we will meet the Trasgu, an old acquaintance of the Leonese; with the Mora, which hides more cleverly in the heart of the beech forest, and which will force us to deviate slightly to contemplate its beautiful carving; and finally with Diañe, the most mischievous of the characters represented.

Although the route has a future expansion planned, adding new figures, we cannot fail to highlight the originality of the initiative and the beauty of the path, which is why we recommend visiting it throughout these autumn months, when the forest is in its maximum splendor.

2. Its magical forests are the ideal place to disconnect from the routine.

In this strange year, and so full of stress, there is nothing better than celebrating the arrival of the new season in a unique environment like the forests of Carande. It is a getaway full of attractions both for those who are usually in contact with nature, and for those who need to give themselves a natural baptism after a summer full of uncertainty.

The chromatic variety that paints the sides of the enabled path, the multiple species that we can contemplate as we advance, and the absence of sounds other than those of the forest, make it a unique environment, a beech forest as lush and exceptional as those seen in the movies, and that will help us enter into communion with our inner child.

3. It has a viewpoint with such spectacular views that you will feel compelled to make a stop.

Towards the end of the route, and once you have met the unique characters who give this path its name, you will arrive at the Reñeberu viewpoint.
This viewpoint, which soon hopes to have another wooden carving in the shape of the character that gives its name to the place, is a privileged point.
From Reñeberu it is possible to obtain a panoramic view of the Leonese mountain (with an information panel that identifies all the peaks that we see from our location, for those who are not very familiar with climbing), as well as the Riaño reservoir.
One of those postcard viewpoints, where one can stop calmly, with no distraction other than the squawking of nearby birds, to regain strength after the walk.

4. Carande is just five kilometers from Riaño

Once you finish your foray into Leonese mythology in Carande, you will surely be wanting to know a little more about the area. Well, just five kilometers away is the beautiful town of Riaño.
In Riaño we can enjoy a variety of activities, depending on the time of year in which we are: its fantastic boat trips through what are known as Leonese “fjords” in which they explain a little more about the local history; its walks along the Lane of Memory, which host spectral activities on Halloween; enjoy local cuisine, which features nationally famous sausages; or even the most daring ones will be able to sail through the waters of the reservoir on the back of a powerful jet ski.
