Christmas markets: 5 destinations in Germany

If we talk about Germany, we talk about great Christmas celebrations, glüwein, and picture-postcard Christmas markets, which transport us directly to the center of the Christmas spirit.

Walking through the streets of many of these cities and towns becomes an incredible, almost fairy-tale experience.

If you are wanting to visit one of these markets, but you are still not sure where you would like to go... we propose five unique places, full of magic, that we know you will love.

1. Aachen (Aachen)

We have to say that the city of Aachen (or Aachen, which is its German name) is a true wonder.

Beyond its incredible cathedral, which is so impressive that it forces anyone who visits the city to look up at it, we find narrow streets, charming shops, buildings of varied styles that coexist in the same spaces... that is, endless years of History, condensed in the small streets of this city.

And if we also visit the city on these dates... the levels of magic reach unimaginable levels. Around the cathedral, and in small wooden houses, is one of the most impressive Christmas markets in Germany.

In its stalls you can buy all kinds of artisan products, as well as sweet delicacies, or the famous gluwein that we already mentioned at the beginning of these lines. For those who don't know yet, gluwein is a spiced wine that is drunk hot, and that is usually served in beautiful cups decorated especially for their Christmas markets.

This year, the market is held from November 18, 2022, until December 23, 2022.

2. Munich

Munich is a charming place, that is undeniable, but we must recognize that its streets do not have the same magic at any time of the year. If you go from the end of November, until Christmas Eve, you will find its streets full of small stalls with various products that can be purchased.

Munich has multiple markets (easy to discover simply by walking through the city and following the tides of people laughing while eating and drinking at the stalls), but without a doubt, the most striking is the one located on Marienplatz.

On Marienplatz, next to the spectacular cathedral, there is an immense fir tree full of candles, and around it multiple stands with options to drink something hot.

This year will begin on November 21, and will end on December 24, 2022 at noon.

3. Frankfurt

4. Dusseldorf

In Düsseldorf, as is also the case in other German cities, we find several Christmas markets, all of them very close to each other. In this case, we highlight the most famous of the markets, the Altstadt-Markt market, which is in the oldest area of Düsseldorf, and which also serves as a link between the artisans' market and the angel market.

This year, they will be held between November 17, 2022 and December 30, 2022.

5. Koln (Cologne)

Cologne is a city that is well worth an extensive visit in itself, but if we also add Christmas markets, what could go wrong?

Around its imposing cathedral, and with a traditional aesthetic as well, is the main Christmas market in Cologne. Additionally, to complete the setting, a huge Christmas tree is added to the scene, and a stage on which Christmas performances are performed.

This year, the Christmas market will start on November 25, 2022, and will end on January 8, 2023.
