Lebkuchenherz
Traditional Lebkuchenherz from German Christmas markets
You can't leave the market without one of these cute sweets. The most traditional thing is that they are heart-shaped and have some sentimental message such as Ich Liebe Dich (I Love You) or Frohe Weihnachten (Merry Christmas). But they also usually have a cord so you can wear them hanging around your neck, showing off the Christmas spirit. And once you get tired of showing it off so much, you can devour it, because they are so good, you won't leave a single crumb behind.
Langos
Although it is typically a Hungarian recipe, that has not prevented the German city from adopting them. It is a fried bread-type dough covered with chocolate cream, sugar, apple syrup... but be careful! Langos also have a salty version, equally delicious.
Chocolate covered fruit
The idea is simple, and at first glance it is difficult to think that we would want to have a cold dessert, however, the number of stalls where this sweet temptation is sold proves that we are wrong.
There is something for all tastes, both in a variety of fruits, where we find apples, kiwis, strawberries or even passion fruit, and with dark, white, milk, and even kinder chocolate covers. Don't miss the opportunity to taste them.
Hot chocolate
You will find it in very different versions; in a beautiful cup, so hot that you can barely hold it (you can take the cup with you), as cold as the worst winter day, or even mixed with coffee, in a mixture that combines bitter and sweet in equal parts, and will make you your taste buds go crazy.
In any case, what is evident is that it is a Christmas classic, and even more so if we accompany it with a good carol serenade, just as they do in Frankfurt. And, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, a group of musicians go up to the Church of San Nicolás at six in the afternoon, to liven up the atmosphere with the most popular Christmas carols.
